The World Transplant Games

TEAM GB photo large

The World Transplant Games will be taking place from the 17th -24th August 2019 in the Gateshead/Newcastle area. Please see attached a press release with more general information about the Transplant games, and what they are all about.

The Petanque aspect of the World Transplant Games will be taking place on Sunday 18th August (Singles) and Monday 19th August (Doubles) at Sage Gateshead (which is a big concert venue). This is in a stunning location on the South bank of the Tyne river between the Tyne Bridge and Millennium Bridge (see map via this link,-1.5989243,17.25z). There are hotels including the Hilton, Ramada and Jury Inn just a short walk away.

Terrains will be made on the Mill Road Car Park (again see map link), with a smaller raised section being created just in front of the entrance of Sage Gateshead, where the finals will be played. There is a great image of this on the second attached info document.

As the Petanque is taking place over a large area there is plenty of room for spectators and tickets will not be needed

I will be playing on both days of the competition. Play will be between 9.30am and 20.00pm. Men and Woman will be split into age categories, therefore there will be a number of competitions taking place.¬†Each section’s competition will take 4 hours (from what I have heard) It’s not yet clear when each category’s competition will be taking place during the day or what sort of competition format we will be playing. Hopefully this info will be released in advance.

I have attached a recent squad photo. I am on the back row. I will get another photo done of me in my full kit.

Look forward to seeing you all soon.

Kind Regards, Daniel
